CLASS DESCRIPTION:

This invasive course is designed to provide extensive hands- on training as a Phlebotomy Technician. Phlebotomy Program prepares students to draw blood by venipuncture and capillary puncture. Students are taught safe and efficient work practices in obtaining adequate and correct blood specimens, labeling specimens and transporting specimens correctly to the appropriate laboratory sections. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and other diseases are stressed..   All while using an easy systematic approach. This course prepares student to take the National Healthcare Association Exam (NHA)

PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of basic Anatomy or Medical Terminology is preferred while not required.  (Medical Terminology Seminar also available.)
